Welcome to Madhya Pradesh Indian Forest Service Association website, the largest IFS Association of India.

  • The forest area of the state is 94,689 km2 constituting 30.72% of the geographical area of the state. It constitutes 12.30% of the forest area of India.

    This is classified into
    - Reserved Forest : 65.3%
    - Protected Forest : 32.84%
    - Unclassified Forest : 0.18%





  • Per capita forest area is 2,400 m2 (0.59 acres) as against the national average of 700 m2 (0.17 acres).
  • The forest cover is less dense in the northern and western parts of the state, which contain the major urban centres.
  • Variation in climatic and edaphic conditions brings about significant difference among the five forest types of the state.
  • There are 11 agro climatic zones in the state.
  • There are 51 districts in the state.
  • The MPFD is divided into 16 territorial Circles, 11 Research and Extension Circles, 16 Working Plan units and 64 Territorial Divisions.
  • The cadre strength of IFS officers is 296 in the state.
  • The state is surrounded by Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
  • It is lined with majestic Vindhyachal and Satpura mountain ranges with Aravalis on the western border with Rajasthan.
  • The Heart of India, as it is often referred, is replete with perennial rivers sprouting from the forested ground.
